Collection: Francesca Rinaldi
Francesca Rinaldi, visual artist, primarily works with sculpture
and drawing. Her imagery is built from the observation and
study of the natural world. She is interested in everything that is
possessed or possessed by life and has the capacity to change;
among these are flowers and their buds, roots, insect wings,
chrysalises, rabbits, sponges, and other microscopic marine
organisms, shells, teeth, some internal organs, and bones. Her
focus is on the form of these elements, especially the smaller
ones, to the extent that observing them leads her to discover
new worlds. It is through imagination that the pendulum
between what is real and what is not begins to swing, merging
wonder and the grotesque. The artist constantly seeks that
magic capable of liberating all beings, allowing them to
transform into whatever they need in order to never truly die.
For her, this is a way to connect with something that, although
natural, seems alien. Through the modeling of materials (mainly
clay and fabrics), which she treats as living organisms, using
repeated gestures like twisting, stretching, digging, and biting,
she establishes a close connection, through which she feels the
material and feels within it; transforming and being
transformed, as in a ritual, undergoing constant
metamorphoses.
